Perth Beauty Takes the Modelling World by Storm

Perth model Fabienne Vanderhaeghen has shot to stardom after being discovered by her cousin’s wedding photographer just a few short years ago.

After being signed to Chadwick Models, she appeared as the face of the 2007 Perth Fashion Festival and also shot campaigns for popular clothing company Live and West Australian designer label of the year (2007), Morrison. Fabienne was also appointed as new ‘it-girl’ for Bonds, taking over from Aussie supermodel and household name, Sarah O’Hare.

2008 has seen Fabienne’s popularity grow throughout Europe and the US where she has modelled for big names such as Wella in Paris, Laurel (Escada’s youth label) in Spain, Teen Vogue in New York and she is also set to appear on the cover of Italian Elle later this year.

King Street Welcomes Wheels & Dollbaby

Wheels & Dollbaby

Word on the street is that Wheels & Dollbaby is set to open a boutique in Perth’s most sought-after fashion strip, King Street in Perth City. Designer Melanie Greensmith and her iconic label have been a stable favourite with rock stars and celebrities for years and also have a huge following in her home town of Perth. If Greensmith secures the site she will have fought off major luxury brands to join the likes of Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Subway DC, Empire Rose, Periscope and the rumoured to be opening – Tiffany & Co.

Napoleon's Autumn/Winter 08 Trends

On his recent trip to Australia, Napoleon made a special appearance on the Mornings with Kerri Anne show where he revealed his trend alerts for the Autumn/Winter season.

China Syndrome
Leading up to the Beijing Olympics Napoleon predicts we will see strong Eastern influences emerge, with Geisha-like skin finishes and bold lips.

60's Inspired Makeup
The 60's look is making a comeback thanks to Anne Hathaway in the 2008 release of Get Smart. The look is all about well defined eyes, which are made dramatic with liquid or gel eyeliner and feathery boudoir lashes with a matte porcelain skin base.

Bold Lips

Bold lips are back, with lipstick tipped to replace gloss in a big way. Go for red or crayon bright lipsticks. Try DeVine Goddess lipstick in Aphrodite (deep red) for that glamourous red carpet look.

Navy Nails
Following Chanel’s trend debut on the US Spring Catwalks, shades of navy, midnight blue and indigo are officially the new chic replacement for black nails.

Oasis Time Out

Napoleon reminds us of the importance to take time out to pamper and care for our skin. His new skin regime, Auto Pilot 1-2-3 was developed using advanced water technology and takes hydration to deeper levels of the skin to help de-stress and refine skin’s texture and prepare for an ultra smooth makeup landing.

The New Generation

Luxury fashion brands are being forced to overcome their resistance to internet marketing in order to capture the younger generations, and in turn secure a future following of their iconic labels.

Gen Y’s have a much higher level of disposable income in their 20s than past generations and choose to spend a large percentage of this on luxury items, rather than throwing it all into bricks and mortar or settling down into marriage and family life. This shift, along with their early adoption of technology and new media, positions Gen Y’s as a desirable and cashed-up demographic, but one that is hard to reach through traditional advertising mediums.

To reach the Gen Y’s, luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada and Chanel are undergoing a massive shake-up in their marketing strategies. With their strategic branding once reserved for glossy fashion magazines or high profile outdoor media, now these brands are turning to more techno-savvy mediums in order to capture the attention of this younger trendsetting generation.

Social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, as well as countless online forums and blogs have become an international phenomenon and the standard tools that Gen Y’s utilise throughout their decision-making process.

Gen Y’s research products on the internet, post questions on forums and discuss purchases and brand perceptions with their peers. Much of the emotional connection once experienced during a purchase interaction with a salesperson has been replaced by ‘word of mouth’ referrals from friends or product reviews from virtual peers.

The habits of Gen Y consumers have been a driving force behind the emergence of many successful online stores and e-boutiques, however the high-end luxury brands have been slow to incorporate e-commerce into their realm of products and services.

It won't take them long though - keep an eye out and see what your favourite luxury brand is doing online.
