Brazilian Keratin Treatment by Louise Jeckells

Thanks to my Italian mother, I can never leave the house on a rainy day without some protection for my curly/frizzy hair. So when I read an article that guarantees straight hair for four months without using harsh chemicals and doesn’t damage your hair…I assumed they were lying. I checked it out, if not for my involuntary hair, but for others like me.

Brazilian Keratin Treatment was established in 2006 by owners, Marcia and Marcelo Teixeira. Maria became a certified cosmetologist and spent the next years studying the systems and working with experts to perfect a new hair treatment that didn’t involve harsh relaxers or chemical steams.

The Brazilian Treatment is a product that is neither a traditional relaxer or a straightener that can only be used on specific hair types. It does not involve a chemical treatment that will leave the hair in a bad condition.

So how do they do this? Unlike other methods of straightening hair, the keratin treatment doesn’t involve breaking down the hair and reconstructing it by using high ph levels. This very high alkalinity softens the hair too much causing the hair to damage. Keratin treatment uses low ph levels, which match the normal level of your hair.

Brazilian Keratin Treatment is practically risk free when used correctly. Unfortunately, Australia doesn’t have training classes yet so you can’t learn how to use the product efficiently, however if ordering it online it does come with a training manual.

The treatment is gentle on hair and long lasting. It eventually washes out over time without any harm.

I weighed up my options and the fact that I like the option of having curly hair sometimes, so decided to stay away from this trend. But girls, as far as hair treatments go, Keratin looks like a winner.

Don’t forget to post me a comment if you know anyone that has used this product, we would all like to know how it turned out.

Louise - frizzy after Perth’s lovely storms.

SP Princesses get up close and personal with Sir Richard Branson at his Pool Party ...

The Style Palace Princesses were very excited to be attending the Richard Branson Pool Party last Friday. Dripping in Samantha Wills and covered in beautiful Camilla designs, we certainly blended in with the beautiful Caribbean theme created poolside of the Burswood Entertainment Complex.

It was a fantastic night of Samba music, dancing, flame throwers and fireworks and of course a great outcome for the local charity, Strike A Chord for Cancer.

Loved having you in Perth, Richard. Be sure to visit us at the Palace soon!

These boots were made for walking... by Louise Jeckells

I know it may seem too hot to wear boots during the day, even though it is autumn and the beach still looks inviting as usual, but boots are very hard to find, so start now ladies because it might take awhile!

When researching boots I discovered that ankle or knee high boots won’t satisfy this winter. Conservative is out, and testing the limits is high on the fashion priority list.

Okay fashionistas, be excited because over-the-knee boots and thigh-high boots are sexy, new and jumping two feet into our wardrobes this season.

Thigh-high boots are daring, but can be pulled off if worn with confidence. Personally I am opting for a matte brown or olive green leather. If leather seems too risky, suede is always a safe option, especially in blacks and browns or maybe even a dark maroon.

But remember; if wearing the boots that make your legs look longer and your hemlines look shorter - dress appropriately to ensure no hooker labels are following you around.

I think I have found mine…but I have to order them online. I am getting my beautiful booties from Urban Outfitters, an amazing all-you-want apparel store from the USA. Be sure to check it out!

Buying boots online is definitely the way to go for unique shoes that you won’t see on every girl walking down the street. So try buying online. Most stores allow you to send them back if they are not the right size! Take a chance; you definitely won’t regret it when the compliments start rolling in.

Some sites to visit that won’t blow your budget include urbanoutfitters.com, wantedshoes.com.au, topshop.com and stylepalace.com.au. Even though it is spring now, boots are still going crazy in Europe!

And, some stores that will blow your mind and can be put down on your wish list include Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Prada and of course Louis Vuitton.

Winter clothing is making me go slightly crazy this year, and without a constant job (a poor university student...), I can barely afford a new blazer with daring shoulder pads…but boots are necessary, they define my winter look, so don’t be safe and let your shoes grab all the attention this winter.

Louise - exfoliating and keeping my feet beautiful, ready to fill my new buys!

Lover by Louise Jeckells...

Since recently being heartbroken, I had to find a new love. It’s very hard to find something in my life that doesn’t end up disappointing me. Until I found Lover.

Lover is a brand designed by Susien Chong and Nic Briand, two Australian designers that mix their individual tastes to create what they describe as ‘a mix and match of our favourite heroes, muses, films and songs.”

The new 2010 Autumn-Winter Collection has just been released and I fell in love. The first words that came to mind were; ease and neutral. The collection is called Harvest and you can see the beautiful trailer on the website.

One dress that stood out to me was a little lace black dress. The sleeves are three quarter, the length is sexy, the cut is short and the see-through look is classy. The whole look is divine and I can’t wait to get my wandering hands upon it.

So many items in this collection scream ‘winter will never be boring’. I have already started saving for my winter wardrobe… including a great set of boots. Make sure you read my next blog, as I will take you through my love for boots. Extensive research and money has gone into finding the perfect boot and I want to share my knowledge.

The point of this blog, and I hope I made it, was to let you know that when something falls apart (like love) there is always a bright side. Mine just happens to be Lover and their gorgeous tailored jackets and dresses which burn holes in my pockets.

Also…Watch out for the new MAC Viva Glam lipstick by Lady GaGa. Every cent goes to helping people with HIV and AIDS. Stylish and good for your karma!

A special health message from Style Palace...

At Style Palace we are passionate about sharing our love of all things beautiful, and that includes our health. So today we are taking a moment to remind you all about the well-being of two of your most beautiful assets. That’s right ladies, your breasts!

Every woman should be proactive about her health, regardless of age or family history, and it’s with this message in mind that Style Palace is pleased to help spread the word about BreastLogic, a new clinic that has opened in Leederville and is the first of its kind in WA to offer radiation and pain free breast scanning for all ages and breast types.

It means young women, for whom mammography is not an option, can now take important early steps towards proactively monitoring their breast health. The process is also four times more sensitive than the human touch making it ideal for women who are not confident with self examination.

The cost of the scan is $145.00 (inc GST) and no medical referral is required. To celebrate the opening of the new clinic, BreastLogic currently has a ‘Bosom Buddies’ promotion available and if two people book together they are both entitled to the scan for $95.00 each.

So what are you waiting for? Be a proactive Princess, and look after your breasts!

The Importance of Sunscreen... by Louise Jeckells

Summer is over and all we have to look forward to is a gorgeous winter boot and the return of our milky white legs.

Once summer is over we tend to get slack on keeping ourselves protected from the sun’s harmful rays. In summer we soak up as much vitamin D as we can which gives us a well-balanced mind and happiness. Summer is also the time for creating a better you; I worked out more, I wore tinier clothes (only to show off my toned body!), I looked after my skin and I drank more fluids.

Now that summer is over, we see the decline of women wearing sunscreen and the increase of skin cancer developing in younger people.

While writing this blog I was on YouTube trying to find a clip I could show you about the importance of sunscreen, instead I found some girls giving demonstrations on how to apply sunscreen (pretty straight forward) and the chemicals that can be put into sunscreens.

If you are worried about these chemicals I will share with you my well kept secret. Tinted moisturiser. The answer to not wearing foundation and still achieving an even skin tone - who knew such a thing existed.

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, which affects two in three Australians before the age of seventy. That means someone close to you, your daughter, father, cousin or best friend could not be looking after themselves correctly.

I made a pact with myself that I will continue to treat my body as if it was summer all year round. I will have the same attitude of looking after myself now as I do when I’m wearing a two piece bathing suit and being tanned, within an inch of my life.

My mother may have not told me to stay away from boys with tattoos and men with mother issues, but she did strongly advise me to wear sunscreen all year round and to look after my skin.
