On a recent horror return journey from Europe, I was spending yet another hour aimlessly wandering through the duty free stores of Singapore’s Changi Airport. Having already clocked up some 36 hours of continuous travel, transit lounges and ghastly plane food, and with home still seeming an eternity away, I found myself chuckle as I recalled the Douglas Adams quote from his hit novel, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. “Airports are ugly. Some are very ugly. Some attain a degree of ugliness that can only be the result of a special effort.”
While this quote was certainly true for a number of the other airports I had come across, Changi Airport couldn’t be further from this statement. Changi is an oasis among the other ugly airport terminals of the world. Splashed with bright colour and modern, funky furnishings; even immaculate shower facilities and ‘nap rooms’ and not to forget the trademark beauty of the colourful orchid gardens.
I came to the conclusion, that as a traveller you feel ugly whilst in an airport. I mean, I had black circles and bags under my eyes that were the size of speed humps, and which no amount of Dior eye cream was going to fix. But worst of all...I had ‘kankles!’ Yes that’s right, my feet and ankles had swollen from the change in air pressure, to the extent that they only just fitted back into my dainty ballet flats and left them with an unsightly muffin-top style of overhang. Not exactly the stuff Style Princesses are made of!
So as I wandered the duty-free beauty counters and applied every ‘tester’ possible in an effort to make myself feel clean, human and not at all like Veruca Salt of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I was delighted when I stumbled upon a Becca Cosmetics counter.
Apparently Changi is the first airport to stock the cult Australian beauty brand, and all of a sudden the airport became even prettier again. Suddenly all the other beauty products dissolved into the background and I felt like I was home. Well, almost.
Within 3 minutes I had found a perfect ‘non sticky’ gloss shade to add to my extensive gloss collection. Becca’s Glossy Lip Tint in Maraschino was an instant winner and now sits proudly on my bathroom counter alongside my Becca Mineral SPF 30 Primer.
Congratulations to Rebecca and her team for their ongoing product innovation and international success.
