Chantelle Barry visits Style Palace & Prince Romeo is in Love!!
Perth born and raised singer, actor and jewellery designer, Chantelle Barry, recently returned home to host the FTV Diamond Model Awards and dropped by the Style Palace HQ to catch up with the team.
Chantelle Barry is currently based in LA and most people probably remember her for winning POPSTARS back in 2000 and earning herself a spot in the all-girl pop group Bardot. Chantelle’s career has progressed significantly since then and she has recently released a new CD, Simple Things, and has appeared in a number of TV shows including 90210, How I Met Your Mum, Entourage and Vince Vaughn’s recently released movie, ‘Couple’s Retreat’.
Chantelle isn’t represented by a record label and all of her career success to date has been the result of sheer hard work on her part. She admits at times it can be very hard work and understands the difficulty of breaking into the industry. Chantelle acknowledges competitions such as the FTV Diamond Model Awards can provide a real opportunity to get a foot in the door.
‘The winner of the FTV Diamond Model Awards receives a number of prizes including a contract with Chadwick Model Management and they will also become the spokesperson for FTV in Australia.
The judges weren’t just looking for a catwalk model but for the entire package. Someone that presents well, walks well and overall will be a very positive personality for FTV.’
Chantelle has enjoyed the opportunity to return to Perth for the FTV Diamond Model Awards but has no intention of moving back home in the foreseeable future.
‘I have wanted to be based in the States since I was a little girl and when I first arrived in LA I recognised there is just so much opportunity, but it is very competitive.’
Chantelle has enjoyed successes in her musical career but has enjoyed the opportunity to explore acting as well.
‘Most people recognise me for my music but I actually started out in theatre and I have a strong background in musical theatre, having studied it throughout Australia. It is just good that LA provides me with the opportunity to pursue both acting and singing.’
And if singing and acting doesn’t keep Chantelle busy enough, she has also started up her own jewellery line which will be stocked by Style Palace in the weeks to come.
Chantelle describes her own sense of style as bohemian and admits that she finds it hard to keep up to date with the latest Australian fashion whilst in LA but she loves the opportunity to take some pieces home with her to maintain her patriotism.
Chantelle also makes many of her own clothes but couldn’t resist the opportunity to snap up a cute White Sands bikini whilst visiting Style Palace and she also loved the look of a Lisa Ho dress, a vest from Bec & Bridge and a mini tank dress from Camilla.
‘Everyone in LA is always commenting that Australians are very fashion forward.’
Chantelle notes that her sense of style onstage is very similar to the red carpet and she can’t resist the opportunity to buy online.
‘The first item I ever bought online was a pair of shoes and the first account I ever had online was for Victoria’s Secret. I wondered how much trouble I could get into until I realised they also had a whole range besides underwear. I buy everything online!’
When asked which celebrities in LA have the best sense of style, Chantelle noted Jennifer Connelly and AnnaLynne McCord from 90210 always looked great.
‘Jennifer always dresses beautifully for her shape and every time I see AnnaLynne she is always immaculate’.
Chantelle looks forward to bringing her own sense of style to Australia and LA with her new jewellery range so stay tuned to Style Palace for the exclusive release.

SP's V Raw Interview with Sally Nolan, Famous Magazine
If you are a budding fashion designer eager to see your designs on the Style Palace website alongside the likes of Camilla, Hussy or Samantha Wills, then you should enter the V Raw LiveStyle Design Search for your chance to showcase a collection at Melbourne’s LiveStyle Festival in 2010, plus receive $8,000 to help your creations come to life.
The V Raw LiveStyle Design Search will be judged by a panel of experts including Famous magazine’s Fashion and Beauty Director, Sally Nolan. Sally always knew she wanted a career in media and combined it with her love for fashion which was developed from a very early age.
Sally recognises how difficult it can be to break into the fashion industry and hopes the V Raw LiveStyle Design Search will provide one young designer with a launching pad to start their career.
‘I hope it will be an opportunity for their career to skyrocket. There will be so many people at the LiveStyle Festival, including buyers, and it will provide the winner with great exposure.’
As one of three judges of the competition, Sally is looking for designers that show a good blend of innovation and wearability.
‘Australian designers are recognised for having the perfect blend of being innovative, relaxed and wearable. If you can’t wear it, it won’t work and Josh Goot and Kirrily Johnston are great examples of Australian designers who get it right.’
Australian designers have certainly been in the spotlight recently, especially when their designs are being worn by some of Hollywood’s hottest celebrities.
‘Who could forget when Sass & Bide was worn by Sarah Jessica Parker from Sex and the City and Samantha Wills accessories have been spotted on a number of celebrities including Eva Mendes, Beyonce and Ashlee Simpson. It is great to see,’ said Sally.
‘Another iconic moment for me was when Abbie Cornish wore the purple Toni Maticevski dress on the red carpet at Cannes. Just stunning.’
But it takes a great deal of hard work to get your creations to the red carpet and Sally’s advice for anyone starting out in the industry is to do as much work experience as possible, find a mentor within the industry and always stay true to your product.
And while Style Palace had Sally on the phone talking about Australian fashion, we couldn’t help but ask what was the first item she ever bought online and it just happened to be a blue Marc Jacobs wallet that she still owns and uses.
‘I buy lots of accessories online and I also do all my Christmas shopping on the internet. It’s a great way to avoid the crowds.’
Seeing as Sally spends her days bringing some of the top celebrity fashion to the pages of Famous, we also asked her which celebrity she thought wore it best.
‘Difficult question but I would have to say Diane Kruger. Besides being beautiful she has an amazing sense of style with a modern edge and she never gets it wrong.’
If you would like to impress Sally Nolan with your sense of style, be sure to enter the V Raw LiveStyle Design Search.

We love it Teriyaki Style...
Delicious with exceptional nutritional value found in few other foods (omega 3 fatty acids), the lovely pink-hued salmon can be served in a variety of ways, but here at the palace, we love it Teriyaki style…
At least, and I say at least twice a week the SP Princesses indulge in Salmon Teriyaki from Sushi Royal in East Perth, WA. Salmon are incredible fish traveling thousands of miles throughout their life cycle and within two to five years returning to the very location where they were born to spawn and die.
As quoted by Dr Perricone, MD, FACN "Salmon is also probably the world's most heart healthy source of protein. It is rish in long-chain omega-3 essential fatty acids - the most beneficial kind which protect heart health, inhibit inflammation, act as natural anti-depressants, increase feelings of well-being and help keep skin young, supple and radiant".
Check out Dr Perricone at http://www.dailyperricone.com - he has fantastic articles, books and Salmon recipes –bon appétit!!
